An Access Audit is a detailed analysis of the existing access of any building, site, establishment, facility, including buildings plans, blueprints and architectural drawings, etc. The reasons for carrying out an access audit are threefold:
1) To comply with the requirements of the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa’s Universal Access grading scheme as introduced in 1996.
2) To improve general access to a much larger target market and in turn increase your custom and turnover
3) To help protect you from claims of disability discrimination.
It is necessary to carry out an access audit to establish what action is needed. The audit prevents un-strategic or uninformed attempt to address inaccessible environments, thus saving time and money.
An access audit takes the form of an initial consultation with you to determine your business needs followed by an access audit inspection of the premises which is carried out by an accredited TGCSA auditor. A price would be agreed before any work has begun.
An Access Audit produces a clear, illustrated and detailed report, which may include the following areas:
Approach, routes and street furniture
Car parking
Ramps
Steps
Entrances
Reception areas and lobbies
Corridors
Doors
Lifts
WCs and bathrooms
Internal surfaces
Facilities
Wayfinding
Lighting
Acoustics
Means of escape
Building management
