Universal or Inclusive Design

Unnecessary barriers should be the starting point for thinking about access. Instead of concentrating on an individual’s impairment, tourist facilities and destinations should focus on the barriers to access created by:

• poor physical layout
• architectural barriers
• the lack of basic equipment
• the way in which services are delivered

The Centre for Universal Design defines Universal Design as: “The design of products and environments to be usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design.”

We work with architects and design professionals who assist tourism and hospitality business owners and companies in improving customer access and making their establishments compliant with Tourist Grading Council standards for Universal Access.
